Race for the Cure is a annual event held by Susan G. Komen to raise money for breast cancer research.
Breast cancer is a type of cancer where cells in the breast tissue divide and grow without normal control. It is a widespread and random disease, striking women and men of all ages and races. It is the most prevalent cancer in the world today, with about 1.3 million people diagnosed annually. The exact cause of the disease is unknown. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed in their lifetime.
We race to honor the survivors, rememeber the fighters and to raise money not only for research but support for those who are fighting the fight. Last year Lubbock's Race for the Cure raised between $75,000 and $175,000. Last year our team, Rockin' Reconstruction, won the VIP tent by being the team that raised the most money. This years race will be held on Saturday October, 4th and we want to invite our friends, family and patients to join us by either joining or donating to our team.
